Vision and Vision-related Courses
CVS faculty have designed a series of courses to provide training in vision sciences. Two "foundations" courses
form the core of the curriculum. These courses provide students with a general background knowledge of sensory
systems and high-level perceptual function. The foundations courses are team taught by CVS faculty and integrate
all four principle research approaches used in modern vision science: computational, neuroscientific, psychophysical,
and optical. The foundations courses are supplemented by a series of seminars in advanced topics in vision or related
fields. CVS works to insure that at least one advanced seminar is taught per year, either through the CVS special
topics seminar or through a seminar offered in an affiliated department. The foundations and seminar courses are
supplemented by regular course offerings in their own or other departments. The director of vision training also
teaches a bi-annual course in grant writing in which students develop NIH NRSA proposals for submission at the end of
the spring term.
