Added 04/19/2012 Senior Programmer: The Center for Visual Science at the University of Rochester is seeking a senior programmer to develop software for research in visual science. The position involves working with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students on the development of novel and sophisticated instruments that use Adaptive Optics to study the eye and brain (eg. Psychophysics, retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography see for example http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/williamslab or http://www.cvs.rochester.edu/yoonlab/index.html). Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Matlab, C++, mathematics, optical engineering, medical image processing and real time control and interfacing of optical instrumention is desirable. The successful candidate will have considerable independence, working in a vigorous and exciting research environment. Competitive salary will be commensurate with experience. Please send applications or queries about the position to Deborah Shannon. (

Added 03/23/2012 Optical Engineering Position, Advanced Technology for Retinal Imaging: A position is available to work with a collaborative team of vision scientists investigating the normal and diseased eye who share a number of custom-built adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopes for high resolution retinal imaging. Participating investigators include Mina Chung, Jennifer Hunter, William Merigan, and David Williams. The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining and operating existing instruments, designing and fabricating new subsystems to enhance these instruments, as well as designing and fabricating new optical instrumentation for vision research. The successful applicant will have had hands-on experience with the design, construction, and alignment of complex optical instrumentation. MS or PhD in Optical Engineering preferred.
Rochester is an exciting place to pursue a career in biomedical optics, with the Institute of Optics, the Center for Visual Science, and the Flaum Eye Institute here at the University, as well as local companies with expertise in optics and imaging.
