Using adaptive optics it is possible, for the first time, to produce point stimuli that are smaller in size than a
single (foveal) cone photoreceptor, as illustrated in Fig. 14. Preliminary data on each of three subjects (Fig. 15)
indicates that monochromatic punctate stimuli (570 nm) delivered with adaptive optics (0.3 arcmin diameter spot,
presented for 4 msec at 1 deg eccentricity) elicits strongly colored perceptual responses about twice as frequently
as stimuli delivered without adaptive optics.
